General reports, no. 6, 2014
Colonic cancer is the most common malignancy of thedigestive tract, representing 13% of all malignancies. Theaim of the study is to evaluate the current therapeuticstrategy in patients with CC. Mortality from the disease isdeclining in many Western countries; this may be the result ofscreening for CC, resection of adenomas, early detection oftumoral lesions and the use of individualized therapeuticstrategies. The multimodal treatment of the disease includesdifferent sequences such as: surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, immunotherapy. Current advances in the research ofmechanisms of carcinogenesis in CC make it possible to usegenetic information in order to establish the prognostic andpredictive factors for selecting the patients for individualizedtherapy. The current methods of CC evaluation allow theplanning of individualized therapeutic strategies, which wouldlead to optimal results.
