I. Gheju, M. BeuranGeneral reports, no. 4, 2014
The spleen is one of the most vulnerable organs in the eventof an abdominal trauma. Preservation of the spleen and ofcourse its functions has been a continuing challenge familiarnot only for trauma surgeons but also for all those for whomthe integrity of this organ was a well-founded goal. Thereforenonoperative management (NOM) of spleen trauma injury hasfaced a continuous development, gradually becoming an optionof healing by first intention among Trauma Centers. Throughthe development of modern technology it has become possibleto keep observation documents on the evolution of bluntsplenic injuries and, also, minimally invasive therapeuticapproach has become possible. Out of these approachesangiography and consecutive embolization are gaining moreand more ground considering the increasing experience and theconvincing results that have been constantly reported in thelast few years.
